Some Blog Love for The Qween's Corgi

The Corgi Legend
By Anne Biddlecombe
Would you know where corgis came from?
How they came to live with mortals?
On the mountains of the Welsh-land in its green and pleasant valleys,
Lived the peasant folk of old times,
Lived our fathers and grandfathers;
And they toiled and laboured greatly with their cattle and their
Ploughing, that their women might have plenty.
And their children journeyed daily with the kine upon the mountain,
Seeing that they did not wander,
Did not come to any mischief,
While their fathers ploughed the valley and their mothers made the cheeses.
'Til one day they found two puppies
Found them playing in a hollow, playing like a pair of fox-cubs.
Burnished gold their coat and colour,
Shining like a piece of satin -
Short and straight and thick their fore-legs, and their heads like a fox's
But their eyes were kind and gentle;
Long of body these dwarf-dogs and without a tail behind them.
Now the children stayed all day there,
And they learned to love the dwarf-dogs, shared their bread and water with them, took them home with them even.
Made a cosy basket for them,
Made them welcome in the kitchen,
Made them welcome in the homestead.
When the men came home at sunset, saw them lying in the basket,
Heard the tale the children told them, how they found them on the mountain, found them playing in the hollow -
They were filled with joy and wonder and said it was a fairy present,
Was a present from the wee folk, for their fathers told a legend
How the fairies kept some dwarf-dogs.
Called them Corgis - Fairy heelers:
Made them work the fairy cattle,
Made them pull the fairy coaches,Made them steeds for fairy riders,
Made them fairy children's playmates;
Kept them hidden in the mountains,
Kept them hidden in the mountains shadow,
Lest the eye of mortal see one.
Now the Corgis grew and prospered,
And the fairies' life was in them, in the lightness of their movement,
In the quickness of their turning,
In their badness and their goodness.
And they learnt to work for mortals,
Learnt to love their mortal masters,
Learnt to work their masters' cattle,
Learnt to play with mortal children.
Now in every vale and hamlet, in the valleys and the mountains,
From the little town of Tenby, by the Port of Milford Haven,
To St. David's Head and Fishguard, in the valley of the Cleddau,
On the mountains of Preselly,
Lives the Pembrokeshire Welsh Corgi,
Lives the Corgi with his master.
Should you doubt this ancient story,
Laugh and scoff and call it nonsense, look and see the saddle markings
where the fairy warriors rode them
(As they ride them still at midnight, on Midsummer's Eve at midnight,
When the mortals are all sleeping! )

This Monkey's Gone To Heaven......

I've realized recently that I am becoming my mother. This realization is not due to "sounding" like her or suddenly looking in the mirror and seeing that I look like her. I was driving home from grocery shopping (alone....WHOO!!) the other day listening to my mp3 player and one of my favorite Pixies songs came on...... I blasted the radio and sang at the top of my lungs.

As I was wailing away in my car I realized that all of my absolute favorite songs are from the 80s and 90s......much like my ma's favorites are from the late 60s, 70s and early 80s.

OMG, I am my mother....version 2.0.

Now don't get me wrong I love new music and do own a lot of it but my "singing in the car at the top of my lungs" music is all from my pre-mommy days, which suddenly made me feel like my mother.

What's really funny is that as I get older I appreciate my mothers music more and more as well......I've even gone so far as to tell my hubby that until he could pop off the names of the 4 members of Led Zeppelin, I wasn't sure we could last another 11 years!!

Call me crazy but I guess I really don't mind "becoming" my mother......there are worse people I could become.

So little time....

Busy busy busy......

For the second weekend in a row I have run around like a chicken with her head cut off!! Such a busy weekend....of course in some ways next weekend will be worse but more on that later.

This time I had a family Christmas party to get ready for and attend. Friday we ran around picking up all our ingredients for the food we were preparing, then came home and did all the prep work that we could a day early....oh and while we were out we all got hair cuts.
The poor woman who cut my sons' hair showed a slight interest in Pokemon and the next thing you know my guys are following her around the salon spewing Pokemon facts, and bless her heart she pretended to care!! (As soon as my cut was done I got them out of there....LOL).

When I got home from my hair cut I had to get on the computer (and phone) so that I could be a guest on my friend Fiesty's online radio show......so much fun!! We talked about all kinds of crazy stuff.... got a few good laughs too...LOL

Yesterday was spent at basketball!! The boys did great but one's team got beat while the other kid's team totally dominated!! Then it was home for showers and then off to Minnesota for family Christmas time!! We finally got home about 2:30 this morning and everyone dropped like flies..lol

Oh did I mention I slipped on some ice at the party and seriously hurt my leg?? Well I did, and today all the other parts of me are hurting and I have a lovely shade of purple developing on my knee, ankle and the top of my foot.....Perfect!!

So that brings me to today....today is laundry (I can hardly contain my excitement) and cleaning day (seriously, I'm so happy I may burst)......I hope it's also "stay in yer jammies" day because I am just too tired to do the other stuff AND get dressed...LOL

Everyday Things

My wonderful friend Roxy over at The GunChick made a post a few weeks back called "Everyday things...." where she displayed some photos of well, everyday things. She was ever so gracious to allow me to steal her idea and run with it myself.........

M.I.A

Sorry that I have been missing in action for the last week or so, I swear I have really good excuses thought up. Not that I would ever WANT to lie to my wonderful bloggy friends....just that the lies sound so much better than the truth and I would like to make this an interesting read for you.....

Alas, my heart says go with truth so I guess I shall....

After finally returning from the hell that was "spending time with my FIL", I got home and proceeded to wrap every freakin' present in our house all on Christmas Eve ( I was up FOREVER). I had barely gone to sleep when I was awoken by eager faced children begging to shred open the same presents I had just got done wrapping (I think they hate me, they must right?), so I spent Christmas Day dozing off and on in my husbands recliner. I spent the better part of Boxing Day doing the same as on Christmas Day, with brief periods of talking on the phone, until around 3pm when I suddenly decided that the entire house had to be rid of the Christmas decorations...NOW! I stayed up entirely too late doing that bunch of business but in the end I actually felt better than I had in days so it all worked out I guess.

Thursday found me cleaning like a crazy person....tearing things apart, whipping up dust and Windex everything to a nice shine. My mother-in-law came to sand and prime my bathroom...why you ask? Because she's good at that stuff so I asked her to do it (I think my bathroom is finally NOT going to feel like a dirty old cave...YAY!!). When she finished my bathroom she packed up my kids and whisked them off to her house for the next TWO WHOLE DAYS so that hubby and I could celebrate our anniversary.

Yep, you heard right...ANNIVERSARY!! 11 years together and we still mostly like each other...ha, take that nay sayers!!

So anywhoooo..... and I've been intermittently spending time with my family and cleaning out my house ever since (just felt like the right time to start purging the household, yeah?), and so I beg your forgiveness my bloggy friends. I have neglected your blogs and my own for far too long, and I promise that if you forgive me this time I will TRY not to do it again....

No really, I mean it.

Seriously...

Why are you looking at me like that??

I said TRY......
